Greetings! The Louisville Fire Department has been protecting this community for over 160 years, and its members have been protected by the IAFF for over 70. We invite the public to see what is happening with your local firefighters, and we invite our members to stay actively involved with our Union.

www.facebook.com/share/p/1DF3zXpvY6/?mibextid=wwXIfrToday is a historic day for Florida’s Firefighters.
Governor DeSantis officially signed HB 929 into law at the Florida Professional Firefighters Convention in West Palm Beach — and with that stroke of a pen, the State of Florida made it clear: the health and safety of Firefighters matter.
This law marks a major step forward. It encourages departments across Florida to adopt a 42-hour workweek, recognizing the physical and mental toll that long shifts can take. It also directs the State Fire Marshal to establish best practices for mental health, suicide prevention, and chemical exposure awareness — while also requiring that, when commercially available, firefighter gear must be free from toxic chemicals.
This isn’t just policy — it’s progress. It’s a powerful acknowledgment that it’s time for departments to take action, evolve, and prioritize the safety and well-being of the men and women who run toward danger when others run away.
Firefighters are asked to give everything. Today, the State took an important step toward giving something back: a safer, healthier career.
Thank you to everyone who advocated for this change and made it happen. Let’s keep pushing forward. ... See MoreSee Less

IAFF Local #54 still represents 5 people in dispatch/Metrosafe. Paula is one of them. The Louisville Fire Department used to have dedicated dispatchers. Our dispatchers used to cross train with our suppression members and would sometimes be on scene at incidents.

Chief Ohlmann and J-Town leading the way. This schedule greatly improves the health and longevity of firefighters and EMTs. Let’s hope metro government and the other fire boards see the benefit of this.

Firefighters are being denied access to a therapeutic medication that can help with multiple ailments that plague the fire service. Medicinal cannabis helps with pain management, PTS/PTSD, improved sleep and recovery, anxiety and depression and it has anti inflammatory effects. If prescribed this medication Firefighters should not be denied the benefits it can provide them. #removethestigma #reefermadness

We greatly appreciate this investment into Louisville's Bravest. This is a positive step forward, but we still have a significant way to go to compensate for years of neglect.
